Chapter Achievements

 

I.  Past Southeastern Province Polemarchs – Greenville (S.C.) Alumni

  • Preston Smith (1993-1996) – Bro. Smith was the ninth Province Polemarch.  He chartered two chapters during his term.  He was also a Joseph R. Jenkins Award recipient.
  • Chester Leaks (2002-2005) – Bro. Leaks was the eleventh Province Polemarch.  He chartered six chapters and under his leadership, many brothers within the province were the recipients of various prestigious awards.  He’s the current Grand Keeper of Records & Exchequer.
  • Solomon S. Bradley (2007-2011) – Bro. Bradley was the thirteenth Province Polemarch.  He was appointed on August 25, 2007 and had adopted “Creating Inspiration as One Kappa” as the theme for his administration’s first term.  He’s known for his quote, “Good, better, best; Never let it rest; Til your good is better and your better is best.

V. Joseph R. Jenkins Award – Southeastern Province’s Highest Award

  • Bennie Cunningham, Sr. was the recipient of this prestigious award at the 59th Southeastern Province Council Meeting that was held in Greenville, S.C.
  • Solomon Bradley was the recipient of this prestigious award at the 62nd Southeastern Province Council that was held in Atlanta, GA.

 VI. Bert V. Wadkins Award (Medium) – Guide Right Director of the Year

  • Joseph Stowe was the recipient of this award at the Centennial Conclave (2011) that was held in Indianapolis, IN.

VII. Jay Crosby Award (Medium) – Guide Right Chapter of the Year

  • Greenville (S.C.) Alumni won this award at the 81st Grand Chapter Meeting in Houston, TX.

VIII. Notable Achievements of Greenville (S.C.) Alumni Brothers

  • Rev. Dr. Grady Butler-Bro. Butler is a retired minister and educator.  He is a renowned community activist and school board member in Greenville, S.C.  He has held many leadership positions and has received many accolades for his community service.  He has participated in many civil rights demonstrations.  More noteworthy is the fact that he was once the cellmate of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  He is a 1991 initiate of the Tuskegee Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
  • Brent Clinkscale-Bro. Clinkscale is a trial lawyer for Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PPLC.  On October 29, 2009, he was awarded the Founder’s Award at the Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s 22nd Anniversary Awards Dinner inNew York City.  This award is the highest award given by the Fund.  He is a Spring 1981 initiate of the Iota Xi Chapter (Duke University) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
  • Bennie Cunningham, Sr.-Bro. Cunningham has more than 50 years of membership in the fraternity.  He was a 1946 initiate of the Alpha Lambda chapter at South Carolina State University.  He was a recipient of the Joseph R. Jenkins Award at the 59th Southeastern Province Council Meeting.  He is a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Honored by the chapter with a 50 Year Award of Achievement.
  • Louie Golden-Bro. Golden is a legendary basketball coach in the state of South Carolina.  He’s a 1961 initiate of the Gamma Nu Chapter (Claflin University) of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.  He has coached many state championship winning basketball teams and finished his coaching career as one of the premier coaches in the state.  He’s a member of the Claflin College Athletics Hall of Fame and is a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Honored by the chapter with a 50 Year Award of Achievement.
